Mare Insularum is a dark, basaltic plain situated within the Insularum basin on the Moon. Drawing from Eastern and Western aesthetic, philosophical, musical, and esoteric traditions, Degen imbues his work with a metaphysical aura that visually articulates humanity’s inextricable connection to the earth. This work references both terrestrial and celestial realms and contemplates humanity’s place within them.
