The work presents three figures whose domestic intimacy is unsettled by the surreal presence of cloud-like hats, which obscure identity and blur the boundary between reality and dream worlds. Semmes’s use of soft, enveloping forms lends the scene a slightly theatrical quality. The work reflects Semmes’s ongoing interest in costume and concealment.Exhibitions
