Here O’Neil turns to some of the most iconic species in the American ecosystem. landscapes alongside eagles, bison, and wolves appear delicately rendered on hotel stationery, functioning as playful mementos of places traveled and time passed. Through these works, she offers an evenhanded view of the world, balancing horror and humor in a distinctly Janus-faced perspective. Her landscapes form a scholarly mélange of art-historical references, drawing here from the work of Hudson River School painter Frederic Edwin Church. Amid this layered imagery, hope emerges through sustained inquiry — through the careful observation of human history and a willingness to learn from it.
