An extension of Hassinger's Vessel project, here the artist renders the iconic shape in rope, a material that made its first appearance in her sculpture as a student in the Fiber Arts program at UCLA. Hassinger is represented by a rope installation from her student days in the collection of the Guggenheim Museum. The Vessel series originated with research into the history of the vessel for an artist's book in 2020. While the book was not realized, the research bore fruit by way of a series of vessels in a variety of media. Maren was drawn to the vessel as a metaphor for the body, and the consistency of shape and service as a reminder of all that we have in common. The project extends a theme of equality that runs throughout her practice.
