Coming off a survey show at Tufts University Art Galleries, Beverly Semmes (b. 1958) presents both new and historical works that employ her signature medium, fabric, as a vehicle for feminist concern, navigating identity and self-actualization in a patriarchal society. Semmes’ works are larger-than-life, all the while hinting at the dissonance of looking and being looked at. Semmes asserts the power of the feminine via her multimedia practice.
