Wilmer Wilson IV (b. 1989) presents a series of ink drawings that expand upon his interests in American urban life, literally and metaphorically examining the marginal yet interwoven presence of squirrels in the urban environment. Originally introduced to city parks in the 1800s as a pedagogical project, the squirrel evolved to thrive within the human infrastructure while remaining undomesticated, an unsung urban evolutionary success story. The exhibition will feature figurative depictions of animal interactions with human-manufactured objects and urban landscapes. The rendering of squirrel fur will echo Wilson’s formal interest in aggregations of small marks that form lush, undulating fields.
