Wilson's new work represents a shift or evolution in the image source. Rather than using found portraiture as in previous work, s and ~7, begin with a photograph and composition conceived by the artist. Wilson writes, "the staple surface is an extension of my interest in covering the body, it is an additional layer covering the embodied figure in the composition. I have actively returned to thinking about second skins and that is manifest as a series of material explorations, using rawer materials to engage the shifting meanings posed by a body constructed out of things other than flesh... I am also excited to actively negotiate the foreground and background relationship and consider how they inform the viewing experience. Further, the staple surface now extends all the way to the edge of the plane, initiating conversations around painting and collage, in addition to a photo-based discourse."
